Luke 4

"After the devil had tempted Jesus in every way, he left him to wait until a better time." v13

wow. at first glance one could think "what could be a *better time* for Satan to wear Jesus down than after having been in the desert, alone, for forty days, without food?"

but upon further reflection I realized it really was bad timing for Satan. Jesus was "filled with the Holy Spirit" (v 1) and he was there on a mission, obviously. If he was fasting and seeking solitude he was there to meet with, commune with and be empowered by God. A good lesson for me. No matter how my outward circumstances might look, if I am in a figurative desert, starving, lonely, whatever... if I am filling myself with God and His will and plan and desires to be intimate with me, then Satan won't be able to touch me.

I wonder what that "better moment" might look like in my life? Probably when I am weighed down by the cares of this life, and torn in so many different directions on this horizontal sphere that I forget to keep my eyes vertical. Yep. I think that would be it.

but then as I thought about it, what could be a worse time really?
