ah. the beginning of the end for David and Michal. I've always wondered why seeing David dance and play music before the Ark caused her to "despise[d] him in her heart".

I had two thoughts as I was reading this (and hey PC - I actually READ this chapter instead of waiting for your notes lol).
One was that I am sure glad that we do not have to go through all the things that the Israelites had to go through in order to approach God. They had to thoroughly sanctify themselves, and even then I think I would have been afraid that I had missed something or not done something properly, and we all know what the consequence would have been for that. God did not hesitate to strike dead people who came to Him unclean or without permission.

On the other hand, I think sometimes we do not put enough "thought" or reverence into our coming before the Lord, maybe because we have such easy and comfortable access to Him. And it should be easy, and comfortable, because He is our Father. But I think that we sometimes forget that He is also Holy. We forget to have reverential fear. We're almost too casual about it. KWIM?

Not that I want to give up the pleasure that I have of being able to come to Him at any point in my day, regardless of what I'm doing at the time, to be able to pray throughout my day without having to go somewhere quiet and be on my knees.
however, I don't think it would hurt for me to literally "get on my knees", so to speak, once in a while.

I love your thoughts here. Just because He has adopted us and calls us His children doesn't give us license to be nonchalant and spoiled brats. We should treat His fatherhood with a "grown up" reverence and respect as well as with childlike glee and delight.
