Leviticus 16

Wow. Pretty interesting to read all the functions of the high priest making atonement right after reading that chapter on Jesus our High Priest in the holy of Holies in heaven at the right hand of God!!!!

And you can see why it is hard for the Israelites to recognize a "new" covenant when it says right here "That law for removing the sins of the Israelites, so they will belong to the Lord will continue forever. You will do these things once a year." v34

Fruchtenbaum (my fave Messianic teacher) says that indeed Israel IS to continue in all the sacrifices and ordinances of the covenant, but before, they pointed to the Messiah to come, and now, they should be done as a commemoration of what Christ has done, just as the church commemorates the death of Christ in the sacrament of communion.

A very good example of how reverently we should view our God. It really gives you a visual when you read it.

The scapegoat has always been an interesting part for me. I can't say I totally understand why it is included...
