This reminds me again of our small group study last week. While it is true that the Bible teaches that as Christians we will have suffering, it is also true that as Christians, as really wise and beautiful spirited Christians, we should end up faring better than those around us. This is on account of wisdom. A wise person will be very good at their job and relationships, their spirit will be one that is beautiful and pleasing to others, and as such Christians should be easily promoted and honored as a step above the caliber of regular society. Solomon is a really good picture of that. The economic prosperity that Israel experienced under his rule is stunning.

It kind of stopped me in my tracks to hear this argument (I was immediately on guard... you know, health and wealth gospel, etc) but when you think about it, it really makes sense. And it wasn't just a matter of being better off because you make more, period. But because you are a wise steward, and make wise choices, that honor God.

This chapter really seemed like a clear explanation of how God kept his promise to David... peace for his sons rule.

We face struggles like all of humanity but I agree we will always see blessing if we walk in God's will. Struggles will bring character instead of breaking us to the point of letting them bitterly define who we are.

There is such a warning in the life of Solomon. He prospered and had such peace and comfort and yet because of that things didn't go well in his personal walk... struggle forces us to grow strong.

A fellow told me once 'prairie trees wouldn't stand if it wasn't for the harsh and constant prairie wind. The wind forces them to grow deeper roots in our sandy soil. Otherwise they would grow too shallow and fall over.'

I truly believe blessings are more complicated, and run deeper to the heart of man, then just money and wealth. Yes wisdom is the true blessing and the gift of faith and strength to be obedient to God. That will make us healthier for all our days and yes people will notice!
