Psalm 66

What a beautiful Psalm to read right after that last chapter in 2 Chronicles. It shows the faithfulness and power of the Lord and emphasizes our need for humility and repentance.

"You have tested us, O God; you have purified us like silver. You captured us in your net and laid the burden of slavery on our backs" (v. 10-12)

"Just as fire purifies silver in the smelting process, trials refine our character. They bring us a new and deeper wisdom, helping us discern truth from falsehood and giving us the discipline to do what we know is right. Above all, these trials help us realize that life is a gift from God to be cherished, not a right to be taken for granted."

Okay God, I'm gettin' it, I'm getting the message here!

"Now I come to your Temple with burnt offerings to fulfill the vows I made to you - yes, the sacred vows that I made when I was in deep trouble. That is why I am sacrificing burnt offering to you - the best of my rams as a pleasing aroma, and a sacrifice of bulls and male goats" (v. 13-15).

"People sometimes make bargains with God, saying, "If you heal me [or get me out of this mess], I'll obey you for the rest of my life." However, soon after they recover, the vow is forgotten and the old life-style is resumed. This writer made a promise to God, but he rememberd the promise and was prepared to carry it out. God always keeps his promises and wants us to follow his example. Be careful to follow through on whatever you promise to do."

I have done this so many times - the trials bring me closer to God and then when the trial is over I slip away. Now, I am going through a rough time, and feel closer to God, but how do I stop from drifting after He graciously gets me through?

I'm still reading each day- got smart and put some post-it's labeled with each day of the week in my Bible... I just move them ahead like a bookmark. Also moved the Bible to a surefire location. ;)

Hey I really like your post-it idea! That would be helpful!

Yep, it's a big help isn't? I use the little post it bookmark tabs. Heather does the same thing.

Nise... just keep reading, girl. The Word will draw you close and remind of you of what matters even when things are "good". Love ya.

God rocks! I love how all these chapters seem to come together to leads us in different areas. Week after week the stuff we seem to get out of this study seems applicable to my life and OTHERS I know. Many times I have been able to share stuff from this with the group that meets in my home and it has blessed them too... I get excited about God as I keep up with all of your thoughts and our readings!

This message of the importance of struggle was big in my life this week. I just blogged about it. I guess that is why the Solomon chapter kinda rubbed me the wrong way at first... I just felt like that isn't this worlds norm for Christians... we might have it hard here and now but it makes us stronger in character and he will lead us to 'a spacious place' end of v12. I could use some spaciousness this week... ah well, this Psalm was a breath of fresh air for me.

So glad I stopped my self, the van is warming up right now so I can escape the house for a bit but I felt called to check out where we are at on here.

Fact is I used to not look forward to Psalms but putting them in the mix with everything else we are reading seems to make them come alive for me and I find they seem to help me relax, even the heavy Psalms or sad ones because they are so emotional and it is nice to know emotions did make it into the Bible and I am not the only emotional one... was gonna say emotional mess but trying to cut myself a break right now:)
