v1-3:"I know your deeds; you have the reputation of being alive, but you are dead. Wake up! Strengthen what remainsand is about to die, for I have not founds your deeds complete in the sight of my God. Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; obey it, and repent. "

and then v5:"He who overcomes will, like them, be dressed in white. I will never blot out his name from the book of life, but will acknowledge his name before my Father and his angels..."

Repent...overcome... and be forgiven, be saved, have your name written in the book of life. This is good news (every time I hear it)for this sinner.

In youth group, we studied these letters a bit this year. Love the history of Laodicea... there was only piped-in water there, not good for anything (not hot & healing like one neighboring town or cool and refreshing like the other. They were known for their clothing dye and eye salve, which made the town wealthy, but spiritually they were bankrupt.

"I have found that what you are diong is less than what my God wants." v2

This jumped out at me. I think particularly because in the devotional book that I am reading he basically just blasted me with how the whole "theme" of my last year's spiritual journey (pursuing balance) is off the mark, much less than what God wants from us, which is an undivided heart. Major eye opener for me. It kind of goes hand in hand with what Jesus said to Martha. Only one thing is required, and Mary had chosen the better thing. An undivided heart.
