"Joash did what the Lord said was right as long as Jehoiada the priest taught him." v2

makes me think of discipleship. The importance of building into others, building them up and encouraging them on in truth and growth. While Joash had Jehoiada investing in him, he flourished. Without a hand on his shoulder, keeping him accountable, nudging him in the right direction he stumbled and backtracked.

I want to invest in people in this way as much as I can. In my kids, in my friends, in my friends kids, in whoever crosses my path. That's being missional about lifestyle. May I rise to the occasion.

yep. Missional. That made me smile. Not missing out.

I really liked verse 15. "They did not require an accounting from those whom they gave the money to pay the workers, because they acted with complete honesty." What a good reputation!

vs.16 shows they were not pinching more than they needed for the workmen... they still provided for the priests.

This chapter always makes me wonder if this king was taught of the importance of his own personal relationship with his God? If he fell as soon as his mentor wasn't there perhaps his mentor wasn't teaching him independence... you know, like raising our kids to be healthy independently of us, giving them the ability to do the God stuff on their own... praying for them to be saved so they will live right even once we aren't there to make them kinda thing...

Perhaps this king saw it all as a god thing/ political thing and thus without a boss/spiritual guide he didn't have GOD on his own.

Great points everyone! It is good to be here with you guys! :-)

v 2 kinda makes me wonder if the priest was telling him what to do & he was just going along and doing it...hmmm? Then when the priest is not there to instruct him he doesn't know what to do? Discipleship is the key here. Was he trained to be ready to stand when he was on his own or spoon fed the correct way to handle things from a priest? Same thing goes when raising our little ones. Are we spoon feeding them all of life's answers, teaching them the "right" way to do things but forgetting to equip them with the utensils to stand on their own when the time comes?

such great exhortation here from you girls. I totally agree, proper discipleship should equip the disciple to... disciple! This is such a crucial missing piece in our churches today.

I LOVE this too! What great insight you get when you hear different point of views! I will do my best to stop by & fellowship with you girls as often as I can. I am involved in a Bible study about David that I am really trying to wake up EARLY & do, but as I FIND time I will try to make a pit stop in here to refuel! lol
