"The Spirit led Jesus into the desert to be tempted by the devil." v1

the spirit led... to a place of testing. the spirit didn't do the tempting, but did arrange for Jesus to be in the right place at the right time to undergo it. We have been talking about this at length in our life group. Why did God place the tree in the MIDDLE of the garden? Why does God put us in situations where we are GOING to be tempted and should we be removing temptation from our children's reach (if you tell them not to touch something, but that something is in a position that is tempting them rather than out of sight/out of mind). The conclusion I came to in my own head is that temptation is our training ground. It's a stepping stone to obedience and growth.

When we are tempted we must learn to tap into the Word of God as Jesus did to overcome temptation. I find this challenge greatest in my own life in mastering my thoughts. Taking my thoughts captive. Thinking things that are edifying, pleasing, thankful, good and beneficial. My temptation is always to be critical, judgemental, untrusting, etc. God is softening my heart in this regard but only to the extent that I resist the temptation to thing negatively and ask Him to transform my thoughts.
